GEMINA: a road with an antique scent

logo_gemina

The Gemina road was the main road which, during the Roman Period, was able to link the West and the East. Besides the direction to Postumia, the Gemina road flowed along the Timavo river into the Karst plateau, joining Tarsatica, nowadays Rijeka. Near Prosecco another road started to link Tergeste. Those are transits and accesses still in use now and witness the quality of the antique road structures. Fascinating routes, through forests, plains and those nice villages where people have plenty of activities. Nowadays the route starts in Malchina Square, goes through San Pelagio and Prepotto, until the Blu Grotto and finishes on the Provincial Road 6.

GEMINA: routes and natural civilisation landscapes.
The Karst Plateau is a symphony of suggestive reliefs and valleys, with its rare and precious pieces of land for culture, and its white stone-villages, mixed to the amazing fresh green landscapes.
The Gemina route turns alive in this mysterious landscape. Along its 8km, Gemina links the Malchina and Ternova villages, a route not only addressed to pedestrians, but also to bycicles and horse riders, through Precenico, San Pelagio and Prepotto. An easy trip, making tourists (young and old) able to discover the Karst, made of oaks and hornbeams, limestones and red earth, darkened by the sun, and secrets and abysses, amazing surfaces with grapevines. Behind the houses, many hand-craft activities, agrotourisms, good mountain restaurants. Legends and history are able to conquire the visitor’s heart, alongside a plateau where for centuries manhood had to respect the rules of nature. Wind and stones created the paths, fields and shelters. Manhood made those places concrete. Nothing more than that.
